The Honeymoon- Falmouth, Jamaica

We arrived in Falmouth, Jamaica on Thursday around 10:15. Aaron and I had finished breakfast and were surfing on the sports deck (more on that later!) so we had beautiful views of Jamaica as we docked. It took about 15 minutes to get cleared once arriving, and then you could exit the ship! Jamaica 1

Falmouth was known for it’s shopping. Actually, I think all of Jamaica was known for that. Aaron and I had zero excursions lined up for the day. We both had assumptions that we would be docking at a beach, and could just be beachside all day. However, that didn’t happen. You had to take a taxi to get to the beaches, and we just didn’t feel comfortable doing that! No worries! We had a great time, nontheless. Jamaica 2

Apparently Royal Caribbean just finished this port in the last year or two, so it was all top of the line. We were in a safe area, with a lot of Jamaican stores. The amount of jewelry stores was absurd! Apparently a lot of people come here to do diamond shopping! I really have no idea if prices were better, because I have never purchased my own jewelry, lol. We had a great time walking around and heading into stores.

And just in case we missed home, there was a Margaritaville right on the port! We both laughed at that one. Neither of us were hungry because we had eaten a lot for breakfast not long before arriving. Jamaica 3

We stopped in gift shops (a lot of them!), cigar stores, alcohol stores (but prices were about the same!), and little stands all over. Aaron was able to find a Cuban cigar which he really wanted and enjoyed! Jamaica 4

After walking around for a bit, Aaron and I started walking down the road (you can see me in the picture above in the center of the road) where we saw more happening. They told us we just had to have our Seapass cards to enter back into the port but had no problem going over. Um, we became frightened, fast. Turns out, we entered into downtown Jamaica. I guess I should let you know that you never dock at the all-inclusive areas. You have ideas in your head of Jamaica, and it’s all the pictures you’ve seen from those areas. That is definitely not the case! We had not only crossed into downtown, but because we didn’t know it, we weren’t very prepared. They started hounding us from the moment we walked in, and quickly realized we were flashing around our goods! Haha Aaron had a very nice watch on (well, it is a Fossil one, but that’s really valuable to them!), my dad’s huge camera, and I had my diamond rings on my finger. We were definitely not the smartest! We slowly started putting those things around, and we did get hounded less, but still more than we felt comfortable with. We quickly made a circle and headed back to the port where we felt much more comfortable! Jamaica 5

Jamaica was a great time, even if we did get a bit scared! After entering the port again, we walked through a few stores again, and then headed back to the ship. It was about 2:30, and we were both starving, so we went for food right away. While everyone else was still shopping and doing excursions, we spent the afternoon lounging by the almost empty pool! It was awesome.

We wanted to go back to our room to watch us depart (we were on the Port side of the ship so we always saw the ship leave and arrive!) which turned out to be more exciting than we thought! We were supposed to leave at 6:15, but ended up leaving at 6:45. Turns out, many excursions weren’t back in time! Cruise ships never leave you behind, so we kept waiting for them. As the people got off the cars and walked (some ran) to the ship, we were all cheering for them! As we looked around, people were all over the balcony’s watching. It was definitely a good time, and as soon as the last person was found, everyone came running onto the ship, pulled the ramps away, and off we went!

Now, even though we chose not to do excursions, I should tell you a little about them, and why we decided to skip out. As we looked through the packet (or huge encyclopedia!) of excursions, we had in our mind that we would be by a beach. We also knew that our days weren’t so long wherever we want. When we looked at the different options, they were all 4-6 hours, and we thought that would take away from the rest of the day. Looking back, we wouldn’t have been able to enjoy the shopping or Jamaica had this been the case! Anyway, we just didn’t want something taking away our day. The reason they were all so long, though, was because most had between a one to two hour drive just to arrive at the location. Um, no thank you. I have a feeling I would have been quite sick had I been stuffed in a taxi van for over an hour. I know I wouldn’t have been able to even enjoy it! So, looking back, I do think we made the correct decision, but we did hear a lot about how fantastic the excursions were. Some people headed to the beach, some went tubing down the river, some climbed Boon’s River falls (I think?), and some went off to do more shopping!

It was a great day in Jamaica!

Ever been to an all inclusive resort?

How do you do in cars with a lot of people and no air conditioning!?

  1. Ugh NO AC = worst ever. And beyond stinky. These pictures and the recap are amazing. I’m living vicariously through you!

  2. Beautiful pics! Love your recap! Downtown Jamaica definitely sounds a bit on the scary side! At least you got out of their quickly!

No AC…lots of people…I don’t think I could stand it!

  3. Still loving these recaps! I want to go somewhere fun! My family always stays in All inclusive resorts when we go away. I went to a Beaches resort in Jamaica that was a sesame street theme when I was 18. Good job, travel agent, maybe we needed to be more specific when we said “traveling with kids”. I think I’d hold my breath for the entire car ride if I was in that situation, that’s rough!!

Hahaha Sesame Street.. I can’t believe the travel agent booked that for you guys!! 18 is a bit old to be dealing with all the little kids around! Lol I think I want to try an all inclusive next time!

  4. i had a similarly crazy experience in jamaica when i was there a LONG time ago so i can imagine how you felt! i love reading these recaps so much! tex and i are hoping (hoping hoping hoping) that we can afford a honeymoon to spain. we’ve both always wanted to go but the plane tickets are so pricey. since we’re not going til next summer we have a bit of time to save but it’s creeping up quickly. right now i’ll just continue to live vicariously through you 🙂

Oh wow would that be an amazing honeymoon! I have heard fantastic things about Spain! I feel like a honeymoon is worth money and definitely one you want to enjoy.. And if you both want to do it, might be worth some sacrifices throughout the year 🙂 ps its amazing how fast it will creep up on you!! Haha

  5. Sounds like a good time! Well except the getting hounded part lol. Just looks like such a beautiful place. I don’t think I could ever do a cruise or anything that involves getting on a boat, I have a huge fear of the boat sinking hahaha. And I don’t think I could handle being a car filled with people and no air conditioner, just way too many smells going on hahaha.

Wayyy too many smells! Haha the not drowning part could be scary. However, the life boatS they have are incredible! They are nothing like I would’ve imagined but are definitely nice to have!!

  6. I’ve heard greaet things about Jamaica! Looks like yall had a blast. I’ve been to Margaritaville before in Cancun and it lives up to its name for sure 😉

  7. I have to admit I am in love with following along with all of your recent posts- from showers to honeymoon. We have never done all inclusive but that is because it doesn’t make sense for us.. I don’t drink and I’m a picky eater–> aka an all inclusive resort’s dream because I’d pay far more than I would use.

I am glad you enjoy them 🙂 I love writing them because I get to live through it again! I completely agree about all inclusive! I think it would be a nice experience, but really I just love how huge the resorts are at all inclusive resorts. I am very picky (except for cookies… lol_ but I don’t drink a lot either. Like I mentioned, one strawberry daquiri on the cruise, and one glass of wine. lol That’s how I roll 😉

  8. I am slowly becoming more and more jealous of your honeymoon!! I am so glad you had so much fun!

  10. No air conditioning and cramped conditions for an hour each way? No thank you. I would definitely choose the port exploration any day! That’s awesome that you guys were always able to see the entrance and exit to the ports, too. I’d much rather be able to do that than have a view of something on the ship!

Oh I was so happy about that, too, when we docked! I was worried it would be far away or something. I felt a lot better when I knew it was very close by 🙂

  11. We have done all-inclusive in Cancun when we got engaged and Jamaica for our honeymoon. Both were amazing, but we really didn’t venture off the resort in Jamaica unless it was an excursion. We were warned about what you experienced and worse! I would definitely go back though!

And if you aren’t on a cruise sponsored excursion, they will definitely leave you behind if you’re running late! There are a lot of funny/sad videos on YouTube of people running to the dock as the ship sails away!

    • Fit N Cookies says:

Those sound amazing! My parents went to Cancun last year and had the best time. I had no idea if it wasn’t cruise sponsored they would leave you! I didn’t really look into it just saw we waited for everyone 🙂 Lol

  12. My husband and I had a very similar experience in Jamaica years ago. Needless to say, it was our first and last trip there. haha I like to go on vacation to places that it is safe to venture out and experience the culture there. Oh well, our experience there does make for a funny story to tell others now. 🙂

    • Fit N Cookies says:

So glad to know it wasn’t just us lol I love telling the story now, though.. everyone always laughs!
