Chest and Back workout and Treat Yourself Tuesday

I’m trying to figure out how to get my run in today as part of my training plan. It is going to be 90 here, it’s too dark to run before work, and it’ll be too hot after. I guess I’ll have to go to my parents for the treadmill? (Still haven’t joined a gym…) I’m not sure what I’ll do. Maybe it’ll cool down and I can go after dinner, but I’m not an after dinner running kind of gal!

Regardless of how I get my workout in, here’s a workout you should do!

This is a great one that switches things up, and gives you a good workout, too. I use this with the elliptical on one of my cross & strength days. The elliptical can get boring, so I try to keep it to a minimal, ha.

For the past few weeks, I have been enjoying Becky’s posts about Take Time Tuesday. I have to say, I don’t take too much time for myself. You can usually find me blogging, cooking dinner, cleaning the kitchen (because why would it ever stay clean for longer than 5 minutes!), packing lunches, or putting things away. Oh, and working out. Between all of that, who has time for themselves? I made it a point on Sunday night to paint my nails. You’re probably saying, “Oh, that’s not a big thing,” and you’re right. But! It was time for me. Well, not entirely. As soon as my nails were dry, the laundry buzzed, but for those 10 minutes, I just laid on the couch!

You know what else I did for myself last night? I did some baking. I was perusing Pinterest while my nails dried, and saw so many things I wanted to bake! I baked some brownies before dinner (ended up in the freezer for my momma!),

then this chocolate chip cookie cake that Courtney blogged about yesterday (yes, I bought the ingredients yesterday to make it),

and then a Cinnamon Bread (which is currently still speaking as I type this up Tuesday night! Hence the oven pic Winking smile).

I kind of made my own recipe up based on a few others, so I’ll let you know how it tastes! I went for the cookie cake yesterday. I love baking, so it was fun to have the kitchen to myself and make what I wanted!

  1. Yummmm all of your baking projects are making my mouth water!!! I love cinnamon bread. And cookie cake. And brownies. And food in general. I need to run so I don’t get any hungrier before I head out! I have a hard time taking time for myself too. It’s great that you were able to just sit back on the couch, even if it’s just for 10 minutes!

      Haha I went a tad bit overboard!! The cinnamon bread wasn’t as good as I hoped :( It looked so good, but turned out dry and not very cinnamony (despite the cinnamon everywhere in it! ha) Hope you had a great run!! Taking time for ourselves is hard, I don’t doubt that. It does feel good to do it every now and again!!

      MINE TOO!! Not sure if you have Giant Eagle around you, but seriously, they have the best cookie cake. It’s just a grocery store, but man is it delicious!

  6. I’m in the mood to have a baking session this afternoon and a chocolate chip cookie cake sounds ike a great starting point!
    How far is the run you are trying to fit in? Is there a track nearby you can use? Or if it’s only a short run, an indoor carpark that you can run round? I’m training for a 50 mile night-ultra at the moment so my runs have started featuring nights and headtorches but I much prefer running in the daylight!

      Oh gosh!!! That’s long! Ha I have a 6 mile on the agenda today, but it won’t happen. I think I’m going to switch it with Thursday. It’s supposed to be cooler, and I don’t start work until later so I can go after the sun comes out. My plan Thursday was for a 5×800 5k pace workout, so I might try to do that, or go as long as I can doing that given the heat. I figure something is better than nothing, right?! Thank you so much for your help!!

  7. That workout looks awesome. My favorite workouts are the ones that split cardio and strength like this. they are SO effective! You know I’ll be trying this one out ;-)

      I completely agree!! I get so bored on an elliptical for 30 minutes, but when I split it, I can go faster/harder, and not be bored!
