Five Things Friday 11/1/2013

1. I mentioned in Wednesday’s post that I have had my dad’s camera to play around with. It’s a really nice Canon DSLR camera, and I have been having a blast with it. I am a picture fanatic, but my iPhone has been taking better pictures than my point and shoot, so I’ve been rolling with it. Anyway, my dad thinks he is getting this back soon. I beg to differ Winking smile

2. My mom and I are huge Black Friday shoppers. We usually don’t have anything in mind until the sale ads come, but we go for the fun we have. The past few years have been rough, as I don’t like it starting earlier, and I can’t help but feel bad for all the workers. However, this year? I will definitely not be anywhere when it opens. I am astounded and completely upset about the hours. Black Friday should be on Friday! It should be after we all enjoy time with our family, and the workers can do the same. I cannot believe that some stores are opening at 8:00 pm on Thanksgiving. So far I know Kohl’s, Target, Macy’s, Sears, KMart, and JCPenny’s are all opening at 8:00 pm. I am glad that last year I was able to get so many things I needed and hopefully still have fun this year. It’s really just ridiculous that stores would be open at this time. I’m sure if one of them pushed it back and went to 4:00 am on Black Friday, they would have more business than opening at 8:00 on Thanksgiving.

2012 buys

This was just my stash last year, minus the clothes and boots! Oops Smile

3. Thank you all for the sweet, sweet, comments on yesterday’s post. They were exactly what I needed to read while we waited for him to come out of surgery. You sure do know how to make a girl feel loved <3 Thankfully the surgery went great, and they did what they needed to. In fact, his arm strength was already improved immediately after recovery! I know he still has a ways to go with rehab to strength the muscles, but that was an improvement!

4. This weekend is my race! Ahhh I can’t wait for it, and for it to be over Winking smile!

5. I might be alone in saying that, but I am glad Halloween is done. Well, I still have a party tomorrow to go to, but I just haven’t enjoyed the holiday! I don’t know why, but I haven’t really cared about the costumes, or the candy (don’t worry, I still had some). It was just blah this year for me and I don’t know why! photo

I also want to give a huge happy birthday to my best friend, Emily! I was honored she stood beside me at my wedding, and even happier we have remained friends through everything that has been thrown our way! That includes the many states that are currently standing between us! I hope you have a fantastic day and are spoiled rotten! Love you like the sister I never had!

Emily's Birthday

Make it a good day today, everyone!

  1. I am so glad your dad’s surgery went well! I thought of you and him several times yesterday. I am glad Halloween is over too. Now we can finally move on to Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I like both of those way more than Halloween! I can’t believe it is already November!

  2. Glad everything went well. And I felt the same way about Halloween. I felt like a debbie downer but I’m glad I’m not alone!

  3. I wouldn’t give that camera back either if I were you. He can always get another one 😉
I’m so excited for black Friday. I would love one of those state of the art coffee makers and a few new attachments for my Kitchen Aid Mixer haha

I hope you get them! Some stores start online on Thanksgiving day, so it might not be bad to go on and buy them and then go to the stores and see if they are cheaper! That way you still score 🙂

  4. Great news about your dad 😀 And I completely know what you mean about Halloween — I definitely wasn’t feeling it this year, and even had to force myself to try and get in the mood by watching one of my favourite movies (Nightmare Before Christmas). At least now we can start prepping for Christmas though 😉

  5. GOOD LUCK THIS WEEKEND! I’ve never been true black friday shopping. My mom and I just aren’t shoppers. We’ve gone the next afternoon once it dies down before but most of our shopping is done later on that weekend. I can’t deal with the crowds! BUT I can appreciate how annoying it is that they are opening the stores so early. It totally takes the fun away from the idea of the special day!

Yeah it does take the fun away for sure! To be honest, I’m not sure if sales are really much better at the opening times or that weekend, Lol. We just go for the fun, but I know exactly what you mean about not being shoppers and crowds. It’s crazy, but if you go into it knowing there are crowds, it’s not too bad.

  6. Oh I’m sorry to hear all the troubles your dad has been having, that must have been so scary for him and your family! I’m glad surgery went well, I hope he continues to recover easily. That is quite the black friday load! My mom and I have gone quite a few times but usually more for the fun and good sales than any major purchases. I HATE that stores are opening on thanksgiving! Thats the day people should enjoy with family, a day to be thankful for what you have and not missing valuable friday time to shop.

  7. So glad it went well with your dad and he is ALREADY feeling better, that’s awesome! I can’t believe that stores are opening on a Thanksgiving! They should be ashamed of themselves. I used to work retail and honestly didn’t mind getting up early on Black Friday, but I would have been livid if they tried to make me come in on Thanksgiving. Have a great weekend girl!

Thankfully I never worked retail, but I remember when my cousin did. The stores didn’t open until 4 or 5, so it wasn’t bad, but now it really cuts into family time, which is what the holiday is about. I mean, I guess call it Black Thursday at this point.

  8. Glad to hear your dad’s surgery went well!! I’m on the same boat, I didn’t really care for Halloween. Normally I don’t really care either, but I do like to see the kid’s costumes that come by our house, and this year I didn’t want to see any, I just wanted it to be over. I completely agree with you, that is horrible that they are making people come in on Thanksgiving night to work. Besides it’s called Black “Friday” not Thursday….so it should be on Friday, not Thursday……

Exactly!!! Black Friday, people, Friday! ugh haha I was excited for the kids last night, but that was it.

  9. So glad to hear that your dad’s surgery went well! & Happy birthday to Emily! I work at Gymboree over breaks, and last year we opened at 1 am. It was a little excessive because no one came in until three. I’m pretty sure I slept from 6 am til like noon after that. But I’ve never actually gone shopping that day.
