Food galore, Elf, and a Christmas Tree

Thanksgiving Recap

Meals and Fitness for the Week

My weekend was perfect in every way; it included a lot of fun times, but also a lot of relaxing, something Aaron and I both needed. It was so great having days off with him, and being able to get things done. Actually, the moments we weren’t doing anything were what we loved the most from the weekend. These 4 days off have made me so ready for Christmas! We both have 9 days off together! But, before we even start thinking about that, let’s recap my marvelous weekend.

I last left you off on Friday after my mom and I had gone shopping. For the most part of the day, Aaron and I just relaxed and hung out. Around lunchtime, he said he wanted to go out for a run, so of course I joined him! I spent other parts of the day making Cookie Dough Cupcakes and Buffalo Chicken Dip for later that night. While we celebrated with Aaron’s family, and my mom’s family on Thursday for Thanksgiving, we never really have a chance to see my dad’s side. My mom decided to have a little get together to just catch up as a lot of my cousins are in college and back on break.

My mom went a little overboard with food. On top of everything on the table in the picture above, she had Ham Bar-B-Q and meatballs in crockpots, and I brought Buffalo Chicken Dip! Honestly, there was so much food. One of my aunt’s brought a cheese platter, another brought pizza, and another brought a pumpkin roll!

As I mentioned, I do not like any part of Thanksgiving food. However, my “Thanksgiving feast” would have been Friday. I am an absolute sucker for appetizers, dips, finger foods. I love all of that, and definitely eat my fair share! It was such a blast having family over, and getting together with them all!

Aaron woke up not feeling so great on Saturday, and after I returned from doing some Christmas shopping, both of my boys took a long snooze! Aaron never naps, so I know he wasn’t feeling his best. Benny, well, he always naps! Smile P.S. I was ecstatic Sunday morning when I saw Aaron shaved that mustache off! See ya next year, Movember!

Later on Saturday night, I had a date with my mom! About a month ago, my two best friends and their families (the girls anyway) wanted to go see Elf on Broadway, so my mom and I decided to join! We were all supposed to go out to dinner together beforehand, but that, unfortunately, didn’t happen. Instead, my mom and I went to Panera for a quick bite to eat before heading to the show.

It was a really good time with my mom, and we were able to meet up with both of my friends, and even my cousin who happened to be there. My mom and I don’t spend too much time alone, so this was much appreciated!

As for Elf, I definitely enjoyed it, and thought it was funny. However, I probably wouldn’t see it again. I’m a huge fan of the movie, and laugh the entire way through it, but they changed some parts of the movie, and missed out on some key quotes, and parts. I would recommend it just because it’s really put on tremendously. The set was amazing, and they all did a great job! Just a personal opinion that I like the movie more!

We had a low key Sunday morning before I had the urge to go get our Christmas tree! A few years ago, Aaron surprised me on our dating anniversary, which is December 3, to go get our own “real” Christmas tree, buy all the decorations, and have fun decorating it. We had it in my parent’s house, and did it for a few more years. We were going to wait until Tuesday to get it, but I didn’t want to feel rushed doing it all at night, so we did it today! As you can tell, Benson likes the tree, again. We found him hugging it, ha. He’s too much! I also completed the 100 burpee challenge for Elf4Health! I am sure I will be feeling it tomorrow!

The rest of the day was just as perfect as the entire weekend. I truly am blessed in my life, and lucky to have so many amazing friends and family around us!

Tell me 4 great things that happened this weekend?

Have you seen a Broadway Musical? Which one?

  2. Your mom sure knows how to host a party. I’m pretty positive you’d have to roll me out the front door from indulging in a bit too much. Yup I have no self control & I could careless, Ha Ha! Seriously though, what a fabulous weekend. I’m quite jealous you were able to see Elf on broadway. How cool is that!

Have a wonderful start to your week

Haha I have zero self control, as well. No shame! It’s not food I eat everyday, so I’m fine with it for the holidays! Seeing Elf was definitely cool!!

  3. I bet Elf on broadway would be fabulous! I love broadway shows – they’re always so amazing!

  4. Now that is definitely a stretchy pant worthy meal! Ooomigosh WANT. I can’t even tell you how hard it’s been reading all these wonderful Thanksgiving recaps as a deprived Canadian — got any leftovers to send my way?! :D That being said, I spent a good chunk of the weekend decorating for Christmas with J and my family, so I suppose I can’t complain too much.

    Happy Monday, girlie!

I hope you are having a great time with J! Actually we just got Thanksgiving leftovers last night, hahha. Aaron’s mom had plenty, but we just never seemed to get over there to get them! He went over last night, so he can finally take part in the leftovers. Me? I’ll eat cereal over that any day :)

  5. That looks like such a great week/weekend! I love being able to spend time with family I don’t get to see very much. And OMG, all that food looks super good!! I’m like you, I don’t like Thanksgiving food. And geez, can Benny get any cuter???

  6. Sounds like a wonderful weekend!

Lets see…4 great things that happened this weekend: I got to spend lots of time with the family, I went to a charity zumbathon, Justin and I went out to an Indian buffet-style lunch (delicious!) and we went for a walk to the park. It was terrific!

  7. Haha “don’t like any of the Thanksgiving food” <– ME. Minus popovers and green beans. I'm hungry just thinking about those. I can still appreciate seeing such an impressive spread of food though, especially the desserts ;) I still really want to see Elf although I feel like I'll have a similar reaction. Overall you did have a pretty amazing holiday week! I am so ready for the holiday season. So ready.

  8. I wondered what Elf the musical would be like. I am a self-admitted musical snob, so I am really picky about adaptations from movie to musical rather than the other way around. Have you seen Legally Blonde: The musical? It’s so good and for some reason I feel like you would like it!

For some reason I feel like I did, but I’m not sure if I did, haha. Was there a musical on TV about it? Or maybe I just wanted to go see it. You’d think I was an old lady losing my memory like this! I do think I would enjoy that one :)

  9. Four great things-
    1. I had an amazing run.
    2. I slept a LOT.
    3. I rocked Thanksgiving as a host.
    4. I snuggled in front of our fireplace quite a bit.

Looks like you had a great weekend! xo

  10. I hate not being home this time of year, my parents have to get the tree alone and that is always a bummer. it used to be such a tradition. darn growing old! haha

  11. Ahh Joe and I debated Elf tickets since we both love the movie and I love all things broadway :P We won’t be able to fit it in now, but we’ll have to keep our eyes pealed for tickets next time! I love that you guys got your Christmas tree already; we were going to get a real one this year, but I think that may have to wait till next year now so we don’t have to move a ton of extra stuff come June. Little tree for us one more time…but it’s been ours for two years now, and i love it a lot :)

I would definitely suggest going, but know it isn’t going to be the same :) I understand about not getting a big tree right now.. totally not worth it, unless you can get one on sale after Christmas for a really good price ;) Then leave it in the box and it’s worth the moving! They can be so expensive!

  12. Great pics!! And I love the movie Elf! I’ve seen Wicked and Rent (like 3 times)…every time I go I always say how I like the idea of live theater!!
My 4 exciting weekend events are: I ran a Turkey Trot!, I majorly PR’d that Turkey Trot! ;), We went (as a family) to take our annual picture with Santa! and I went to Orange Theory Saturday morning when I would have rather been sleeping/relaxing/not working out! lol

I had a great weekend with my family – and I too was totally disconnected from all things blog-o-sphere!! It felt good but I’m glad to get back to reality :)

  13. My mother-in-law always makes a ton of food too! After Thanksgiving we headed home with about 5 pounds of leftovers (honestly, I am not exaggerating) – and there were about 4 other families that got leftovers too!

I would be interested in seeing Elf the musical but I can imagine that it would be hard for it to stand up to the movie, because its just so amazing!!

I think that was the trouble with Elf.. and one of the parts that I thought for sure they would include was when she sings in the bathroom (mostly because it’s singing!) but they didn’t :(

  14. I would love to see Elf! I’m going to NYC in a few weeks and will be seeing The Phantom of the Opera and First Date. I’ve seen them both before, so I’m excited to relive the experience.

Your cat is just too cute! He reminds me a lot of my kitten – just a different color!

  15. Benson looks a lot like my cat with the tree, what is it with cats and Christmas trees? They don’t do that with regular trees in the backyard, haha! I just saw Pippin on Broadway a couple weeks ago and it was amazing! I’d be nervous to see something like Elf just cause the original movie was so good!
