Our Final Day in New York City

And after a solid week of recapping, today finishes it! I wish I could have just had one recap instead of dragging it out, but I like to have these to look back on and remember our mini vaca. With as much as we got done, though, it was hard to capture it all in a short amount of time.

Today, though, will be short and sweet; perfect for a Friday! In case you missed it yesterday, I shared another post about trying new things. Check it out if you missed it!

After our long day on Saturday, we slept in until 8:30 on Sunday, which was glorious! Doesn’t seem like much, but we still wanted to get in all that we could. We quickly went to a restaurant called Blue Fin in our hotel for a complimentary breakfast before starting out day. When we walked in and saw everyone’s delicious looking food, I definitely wanted the waffles, pancakes, etc. Unfortunately, our “complimentary” breakfast was cereal, yogurt, and a muffin. Wasn’t too bad, though, and was the perfect amount for starting our day on a light note.

We immediately went back to the hotel, got ready for the day, and packed our things so we wouldn’t have to worry later, and proceeded to Lenny’s apartment since we hadn’t been there yet.  I was shocked at how nice apartments in NYC could be! Honestly, the rooms were the sizes of apartments in Pittsburgh, and they have a little outside area. It was a perfect apartment.

From there, Aaron and I went out on our own and found Magnolia Bakery, which was made famous by Sex and the City. We wanted to try something, and eventually decided on a vanilla cupcake with chocolate buttercream icing. This cupcake was fresh and delicious! I was really happy with our choice.

Our last stop ended up being Canal Street. Every time I’m in NYC I end up buying purses, wallets, bags of all sorts. This time, though, all I wanted was a pair of sunglasses as I lost all of mine. I walked away with a fake Coach pair, but a happy me. We hung out and waited until Lenny and his friends came down so we could have lunch at a Chinese Restaurant. We were really rushing for time, but we made it work.

The restaurant was a Dim Sung kind of restaurant where it’s a huge banquet room full of tables. It makes getting a seat pretty easy, without much of a wait. I knew I wouldn’t like the food, but Aaron really wanted to try the stuff, so we made it work. They basically bring all the food options around on carts, and you just grab what you want for yourself or the table. There is a “receipt” type paper you have that they stamp with your options as to small/medium/large/specialty. At the end, there is one total for the table and you divide accordingly.

This restaurant was really fun, and I’m glad we were able to see his friends and hang out a bit more. But, that was the end of our New York City trip. We found a local pizza place to grab a slice at on our walk back (mostly for me), grabbed out suitcases, stopped at Jamba Juice one more time, and waited for a shuttle to take us to the airport.

Before I end it, I have to tell you this unbelievable story. We had a big bus from the Port Authority take us from 42nd and 8th to Newark airport. It was cheaper than a taxi. We got on the bus and started our way there when a man comes to the front to talk to the driver. Next thing we know, we are stopped in the Lincoln Tunnels (voluntarily) for this man to get out and PEE against the side of the tunnel. Are you kidding?! We also had Australians, Germans, and a few others on the bus who were just astounded this was happened, and quite appalled. But wait, it gets better. A few minutes later, he walks up to the front again with a Men’s Warehouse Suit bag. A girl across from us started listening and here he wanted to take his girlfriend outside and cover her to pee. Let’s just say the bus was late to begin with and Aaron and I were nervous about our flight. He started walking back, and said thank you to the driver meaning it was going to happen. I freaked out (we were at the front of the bus) told him it was rude and we weren’t missing our plane for this, and handed him my empty Jamba Juice cup and told him to use that, HAHA. I know it’s mean looking back, but we were like 10 minutes from the airport! I’m pretty sure she used the cup…

What a fun way to end our weekend, ha!
Tell me something fun that has happened this week!
Tell me your favorite pizza topping.

Enough of the trip discussions.. I promise next week will include fitness related topics! New workout, more info, and there might be a giveaway Winking smile Just saying…

  1. You will be so glad you documented this in the future. It will be something you can read about and see things you would have otherwise forgotten. It will be so special 🙂 And I enjoyed reading about the places you visited. Magnolia Bakery is another place on my list for NYC, so glad to hear you enjoyed it 🙂 That is such a crazy story, I wish I could have been a fly on the wall of that bus!

Favorite pizza topping? Do I have to pick just one? I love goats cheese and veggie pizzas 🙂

I guess I’ll let you slide with two toppings 😉 Haha I have never had goat cheese. I’m not sure what it tastes like, but maybe I need to try it?

  2. Props to you for speaking up!!1 I don’t blame you for saying something!! That is absolutely ridiculous that he would stop the bus and everyones plans to go pee. Hold it like everyone else!!! Ah that cupcake looks so pretty and delicious (I have a thing for cupcakes haha) :D!! Favorite pizza topping…..Hmmmm….Pepperoni, I just love pepperoni, and one time when I was little I made a pepperoni sandwich instead of salami haha. That stuff is just so darn good!

  3. That bus story is ridiculous, who tries to hold up a whole bus to pee? I can’t pick favorite pizza toppings, it’s too hard! I love white pizza and I love pizza with lots of veggies on it.

White pizza or plain pizza win for me 🙂 I don’t even know how you have enough guts to think to ask to pull over, lol. I would just hold it. Given that I teach every day and hold it all day long, I didn’t even feel bad lol

  4. Good for you for speaking up! That story is crazy! I love the recaps by the way, I love remembering my mini vacations as well so it is great that you are documenting every moment. Favorite pizza topping would be onions with pineapple and ham.

That’s how I look at it.. I want to remember these times so gotta write about them!

  5. 😆 Omigosh that bus story is the most ridiculous thing. Probably something you’ll never forget though 😉

Your recaps have convinced me that I need to visit NYC, stat. i”m just keeping my fingers crossed that I can find places that’ll be allergy friendly so that I can enjoy some of the amazing food. Pesky peanuts 😡

Hmm, those peanuts really are out to get ya! I am going to go on a limb and say there have got to be peanut friendly places. I feel like that’s a common allergy that I hear of a lot!

  6. Haha that story I hillarious! I can’t believe the guy would ask the bus driver to do that, or that they would even think that’s acceptable. I’m typically someone who pees all the time so I understand needing to go but come on, that’s just crazy!

Oh I totally understand needing to go all the time, but we were going to the airport for flights! haha time deadlines!

  7. This week has been so busy for me, so I have hardly commented on any blogs, but I have still been reading when I get the chance! So I have read all about y’all’s trip to NYC, and I’m so glad y’all had such a great time! Talk about an awesome wedding gift! Oh and I loved your post yesterday about stepping out of your comfort zone and you playing volleyball. I am going through a lot of the same things, and sometimes it’s hard for me to commit to things on week nights, but I am always glad I am. Life is worth living! 🙂

    • Fit N Cookies says:

Aww I hope next week slows down a bit! It was definitely a nice girl. I hope things are going well for you. I think week nights are the hardest times to commit to other things, but it’s nice to get out during the week!

  8. One thing I regret is not stopping by Magnolia Bakery during my trip to NYC! Glad you went!

  11. LMFAOOOO!!!! Dude seriously – she is an adult, she could have just held it, good god! And I love how self-centered people are! A huge bus ain’t going to wait for your over-full bladder. Maybe you should have taken your mother’s advice of going before you GO to heart!!! Common now! LOL! THANK GOODNESS for your Jamba Juice Cup 😉
