My Relaxing Place

We are so lucky to have been blessed with beautiful weather for the weekend. After all the rain and thunderstorms last week, we had high 70s with sun Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It made for a marvelous weekend.

[Thanks Katie]

We had Matt (my brother) and his girlfriend, Shelby, over for dinner! Shelby is still in college which has made it hard for us to get to know her. Now that she is home from school, we are trying to hang out more. Aaron cooked us some Grilled Chicken and veggies on the grill, and I made sweet potato fries. We spent the night laughing, talking, and working on my photography skills, ha. Shelby knows a lot more with cameras than I do (she takes wedding photos, senior pics, and more) and I asked her for some help with Aperture, ISO, and lighting. Now, I just need to practice! Benson was my practice on Friday night Winking smile

Not sure why he was exhausted, or why he picked those positions to sleep. He’s too funny!

Body sculpt was the name of the game early morning followed by work outside. Aaron dug the holes for our posts in the back, and I worked on transporting the dirt. We also underestimated the amount of concrete we needed, and I was at the store buying 12 more bags. Can you believe we used 17 bags of concrete! Those 50 lb bags gave me another workout for the day.

Finally, around 6 o clock we finished! Now we are able to start laying the frame and actually putting wood on top. I can’t wait!

All I wanted in that heat Saturday was some Frozen Yogurt. We weren’t about to stop in the middle of making serious progress to get some, but we did find a place on our way out that evening. I had Cake Batter with Sprinkles, Cookie Dough, and Oreo pieces. Aaron had Chocolate Fudge Sorbet and loved it! We will definitely be back to this place.

We made our way to Cains Bar in Mt. Lebanon to celebrate our friend’s birthday. We had a good time, but I was completely exhausted. We ended up leaving around 11 when I couldn’t keep my eyes open anymore, and Aaron was feeling the same way. If we hadn’t been outside working all day, we definitely could have stayed, but working in the heat really takes a number on your body! Aaron and I haven’t been out in a while with friends due to other commitments and being tired from working outside. I was glad we got out and had a reason to get dressed and look nice, ha!

After taking the morning easy, I went down to the boat by myself. Aaron had a hockey game, and my family met me later, but I’d be lying if I didn’t say the silence and peace was much appreciated! The boat truly is my relaxing place where I don’t really think of anything that needs to be done. We all need one of those places! After the family came down for a bit, I left to get things done at home and grill a delicious dinner. Well, Aaron handled the grill and I handled the inside part Winking smile

And that takes us to today! By the time you read this, I’m up and teaching Body Sculpt (6 am, ouch) followed by a full day of work, and more Body Sculpt tonight! Smile

Have a great day, everyone!

  1. We had the same gorgeous weather and I loved every second of it! Working outside totally wears you out, I’m impressed you made it to 11:00 haha. You have me craving froyo now..
3 things I did this weekend: read on the back deck, went on a hike with Riley and the dog, and took a hot yoga class!

You love the back deck as much as I do! I can’t wait to sit out on it all the time 🙂

  2. I am just so excited and estatic for you that you landed a job so quickly. I bet your class loves you already!! Good luck & have fun.

  3. Mmmm I cant wait to be able to cook on the grill. Looks wonderful, as does your fro-yo. Cake batter and your toppings are my choices too! Glad you were able to find some time to relax. I am doing that this week also…well trying 🙂

  4. You know how I feel about boats. It’s truly my happy place as well so I totally understand and I love the days when it’s just me almost more than when my family is with me. There’s something so serene about being on the water. Congrats on teaching and this made me realize i haven’t had froyo in awhile. Basically you always remind me of my favorite foods that I need to eat 😉

  5. Sounds like a perfect weekend! My relaxing place is totally on our front porch, I love taking a book and some tea and enjoying the view! On the weekends we love to get some dinner out, work on some house projects and just be low key!

  6. Aww fun weekend hun! You are absolutely right about the sun taking everything out of you… I crashed hard last night after being outside for a bit yesterday afternoon. Nice not to have trouble sleeping for once 😉 I think my relaxing place is either on a run (random but true) and in my room, since by the time I get there, the only thing I do is read or watch tv. I’d love one like your boat, though 😉

I agree that my room is a relaxing place because I only sleep in there. That’s a good one! How much more relaxing can sleeping be?! haha

  7. Sounds like a perfect weekend! We had some rain, but not too much. We were moving and unpacking all weekend, plus we had a friend’s wedding on Sunday morning and Ryan had a basketball game at 9:55 last night, so I am exhausted after everything! I’m hoping to be in bed before 9 tonight lol.

  8. Omg that’s a lot of concrete!!! At times like that all I think to myself is, “Thank god I workout, or this wouldn’t have happened” haha. Yum!!! Chocolate Sorbet sounds good!! And yay for body sculpt today!! Good luck and enjoy 🙂

  9. Now that summer has hit, my frozen yogurt consumption has dramatically increased. Im not complaining 🙂

Looks like you had a great weekend. I am lame and catching up on Netflix on the weekends haha.

  10. What a great weekend! We had some amazing weather too, so a lot of our weekend was spent outside (despite my annoying allergies!). We took some walks, did some grilling and just relaxed. It was perfect!

I think the allergies are worse this year! Aaron has had them very badly today!

  11. I seriously can’t wait to see how your deck is going to turn out — it’s going to be awesome with all the work you’ve been putting into it 😀 And I’d have to say that the mountains are the epitome of relaxation for me, but if I can’t get up there (3 hours away… ugh!), then my bedroom is a pretty good place as well 🙂

  16. A busy and productive weekend with a little rest and relaxation thrown in. Sounds like perfection! I totally agree with you that working in the heat is exhausting! Not to mention, what you were working on wasn’t exactly “easy labor.” I can’t wait to see the finished product!
Sarah @ Sarah Sincerely recently posted…A DIY Project + Weekend Wrap-UpMy Profile

    • Fit N Cookies says:

Haha, nope not easy labor! I will be sure to share! It has to be done by July 4, but Aaron is good at working when he gets home 🙂

  17. Hey Girl! Sounds like you had a great weekend! It was beautiful in the Burgh! Manual labor and landscaping trumps any workout there is! Glad you are moving along in your plans!

    1. On weekend nights, it just depends for us. i like to have 1 weekend night each weekend where we relax or at least get home from dinner or the bar early enough to have some time just to lay low, watch a movie, and relax!

    2. I have a couple relaxing places…Ultimately, the stair master is where I re-focus and relax from the day…but I am also relaxed ANY time I am on a beach or laying by a pool.

    3. Three things I did this weekend was: Went horseback riding, Had a date night at Bone Fish, and went shopping for an outfit to wear to the Pittsburgh Juried Arts Festival Art show my husband is in.

I hope you continue to have a great week…and last few days of school!

    • Fit N Cookies says:

Hey! I’m so glad you found my blog. I was just reading yours and how amazing you have come in your recovery! I agree with #1 for sure! One night a weekend is perfect for me. Hope you enjoy the Art show!

  18. Ice cream and grilled food is what summer’s all about. I have to get the grill out – we’ve never even used it!
