Trip Downtown, Our Christmas Tree: Weekend Recap

Oh this weekend. It flew by, just like I’m sure the rest of 2015 will! I can’t believe it’s already December. Christmas will be here before we know it. I’m trying to make the most of the month and hope it doesn’t fly by as quickly as I think it might.

Our weekend started off Friday night when we went to pick out our Christmas tree! We went to a tree farm, with the inside all decorated in a whimsical Christmas look. Unfortunately, the tree prices were just a bit too much for us. We still had fun, though!

Off to Home Depot we went, where we found a great Douglas Fir tree! The prices weren’t bad at all, and we walked away with an 8 foot tree that was perfectly round with minimal bare spots. It can be hard to pick a tree out!

We came home and, after realizing an 8 foot tree looks larger in our house than we thought, cut off a few inches on the bottom and the stem on top, and proceeded to put the lights up. I started to while Aaron put Annabelle to sleep, but I wasn’t good at it, so I drank some wine instead and let Aaron get to work.

Saturday morning we took some Christmas photos of Annabelle (trying to get Christmas cards ordered!) as well as Benson. We also finished decorating it with the ornaments, and then we headed downtown!

My mom was talking about going down last week to check it all out, and I thought it would be fun to take Annabelle. Saturday was such a beautiful day, too. Temps were in the upper 40s and the sun was out. We walked around PPG place, the indoor Marketplace, complete with so many gingerbread houses, trains, another tree, and some entertainment. We proceeded to go to Market Square to view the local vendors, but we didn’t buy anything. I thought about stopping for Santa, but the line was wrapped around the building. No time for that! Lastly, we walked up to see the Creche. If you’ve never heard of this, it’s the Nativity scene. Here’s a bit more about it.

The Pittsburgh Crèche, originally erected in 1999, is a larger-than-life nativity scene and the world’s only authorized replica of the Nativity Crèche that stands outside Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.

We finished the night with Aaron’s family over and watched Elf. First of many, this season, I’m sure! I just love that movie.

Sunday included church (which I stood out in the lobby for since Annabelle thought it’d be a fun time to fuss), a trip to Dicks to finish up some shopping, and an afternoon run!

I love when Aaron is home with Annabelle. Not only are they adorable together, and I love seeing Aaron interact with her, but it also gives me some more flexibility. The afternoon was sunny and reached 50, and I had been craving an outdoor run. I pumped, and headed out while it was nice, and Aaron stayed home and had some quality time without me home. Win win! I ended up doing 3.1 miles and loving every minute of it. I still have some pelvic pain but the doctor says that isn’t uncommon. Even with that, though, it felt terrific. I thought about going for 4 but decided I should stick to 3 miles for a bit before pushing it more. Who knows if we get another nice day what I’ll decide to do, though!

Annabelle has been finding her voice more and more. Her little personality is really showing through and we have been having so much fun! Sunday night she was laying on her mat talking away for a good 15 minutes. She was looking at the lights above and loving talking to us! I can’t say I hated it, haha.

Lastly, I managed to get caught up on my blog reading. This past week flew by and I just didn’t get to reading many (or any!) some days. I had plenty of unopened ones that I finally read, and now we’re off to start the week off on an empty feed! haha

And that was our weekend! Today I have a dear friend stopping over and my brother is coming by tonight. Hopefully I’ll get some things accomplished this afternoon!

  1. SO MUCH CHRISTMAS! When you first showed the picture of the tree on IG, I was like OMG how are you even getting in the front door? So glad that you had such a fantastic weekend!

  2. Hi, just thinking…are you sure your pelvic floor muscles are good to go for running yet?

    • Fit N Cookies says:

Hey! Thanks for your concern. I was given the ok by my doctor. I worked out through my entire pregnancy and spoke about all of this to them and it’s normal.

  3. What a great weekend! Your decorations look great, and your family look so adorable downtown! I’m lucky that I work in the USSteel building, because I get to see the Creche every day. It really is amazing! I haven’t been down to Market Square in a while so I’ll have to go on a walk at lunchtime 🙂

  4. That little red outfit of hers – OMG! Sorry, I feel like all I ever comment on is her clothes but – baby clothes! So adorable!!!

Way to go on your run! I saw that on FB yesterday and was like WOW! Pelvic pain is not fun. Even at almost 8 months later I still get it from time to time but not like I did right after birth. I did 2 miles slow yesterday and it totally kicked my butt. Way to go for three! You look so great, Heather!

Oddly enough, since that run, it’s felt better! Not sure what the coincidence is. We’ll see when I run again. My dr just said it takes time to heal? haha

  5. That little Santa outfit…I’m obsessed! What a wonderful Christmas-y weekend 🙂 My sister and I always let my mom do the lights on the tree. And by “let” I mean we don’t help and wait until she is done. That part is exhausting!

It looks like we should have 60s this weekend. 60s! In mid December! I’ll be getting out for a run or walk for sure!

  8. I watched Elf this weekend too! Definitely my favorite Christmas movie.
That’s a great photo of Benson! He looks so regal.

  10. I remember the first time Scott and I went to cut down our first Christmas tree and brought it home to realize it was WAY too big haha. We ended up having to put it out on our screened porch where there was a higher ceiling. Whoops!

HAHHA at least we aren’t the only ones! In a forest of trees, they look so tiny but in my tiny house, it’s ginormous!

  11. I have been so bad at blog reading lately. Every time I finally sit down and think I have time it’s time to feed the baby again!

  13. It looks like you and your family are really getting festive! I love Annabelle’s red outfit – very cute. It’s great that you’re back at running already, even with the pelvic pain. I’ve been excusing my lack of running because of all the rain we’ve been getting. But you’re definitely motivating me to hit the pavement!

Ew rain is not fun. I don’t run in it, haha, unless it’s a race! I’m definitely not running consistently or pushing myself. I just love running and have missed it!

  14. You have some fab pictures from this week! Love the one of Benson infront of the lights, and the one of you, Annabelle and your Mom.
I’m jealous that you got your Bloglovin’ feed back down to 0 though…I don’t think mine has ever been completely clear! Too many good blogs to read!
